Dear Students and Families,
In his meditations Marcus Aurelius says, “Mastery of reading and writing requires a master. Still more so life.”
When a young person signs up to play a sport or play an instrument, the youth is linked with a coach or instructor. Many times the next step is a trip to a store to pick up the supplies directed by the teacher. More often than not, the coach or instructor is very particular about supplies. The reason for the specificity is that once a certain way of using certain supplies is learned, the young person and the coach can be free to pursue the desired goal.
At school we often use loose-leaf paper and 3-ring binders to help us stay organized. When all of us use a similar method, we can help each other with organizational skills. The use of loose-leaf paper avoids ragged edges of spiral notebook papers. At other times we will use composition books. The pages stay in the notebook, so there is no fear of losing a stray sheet. This is especially important for science projects. Keeping organized will improve study skills and student performance.
Teachers are eager to see students learn and students are eager to learn. As students save their papers in a notebook, they will have a history of what they accomplished in each class. Looking from the front to back of a notebook they will see how far they have come. Having all work in one place will also be helpful in studying for tests and finals.
The general supply list is quite simple to make shopping easier. Feel free to get any colors you wish for composition books and binders. Neutral designs are also encouraged.
Although not on the supply list, remember that you will be organizing your locker. You might want to get a locker shelf, wholesome locker decorations: a picture of your favorite saint, a
prayer card, a Bible verse, pictures of family and pets.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and have fun shopping!
