Overnight Orientation at Camp Fatima September 3-4
This year we are introducing an Overnight Orientation at Camp Fatima for all HFA faculty, staff, and students to attend. This promises to be an exciting way to begin the school year and build community. Below, please find a brief “FAQ” and the Overnight Orientation schedule
What is the Overnight Orientation?
The Overnight Orientation is a two day/one night HFA event held at Camp Fatima in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH. Under the supervision of the HFA Faculty and Staff, all students will attend so they can participate in team-building activities, talks, prayer, games, and a climbing wall (optional). The full schedule is on page 3.
When is the Overnight Orientation?
Thursday, September 3 at 11:00 to Friday, September 4 at 3:00
Where will the students sleep?
We will stay in cabins that sleep 16 persons per cabin. Every cabin will have one adult chaperone (Faculty, Staff, or Parent) who will spend the night in the cabin. All cabins have sinks with drinkable water and bathrooms. The 3 Girls cabins are in one section of the Camp and the 3 Boys cabins in another—far away from the Girls cabins—so there will be privacy. Students will be assigned to a cabin, and grades will be mixed.
Will snacks be available and provided?
Each student is asked to bring one snack to share e.g., fruit, bag of chips, cookies. We will keep the snacks in the Dining Hall.
Is food allowed in the cabins?
What will the students eat?
Lunch on Thursday will be “Bring-Your-Own”; all other meals are provided.
What bedding should students bring?
Fitted twin sheet, sleeping bag/blanket, pillow and pillow case.
What should students wear?
Students should wear comfortable summer clothes since there will be many outdoor activities. Sneakers are required for the climbing wall, and will be helpful for sports. T-shirts and shorts of modest length are encouraged for the daytime, along with flip flops or shower shoes for the shower and swimming. Swimsuits should also be modest (one piece for ladies). Since it will be chilly at night, students are also encouraged to bring warmer layers (sweatshirts, etc.) for sleeping.
For more specific questions regarding dress code, please refer to the “dress down” portion of the student handbook, to be posted on the website August 25
Will there be showers?
The girls shower room is adjacent to their cabins; the boys shower room is next to their cabins, which are far away from the girls’ cabins.
Will there be swimming with lifeguard on duty?
Yes; there will be swimming on Thursday afternoon and a lifeguard will be on duty.
Will there be medical staff on site?
Yes; we will have a certified first aid adult on staff throughout the duration of our visit.
What should students pack?
Lunch for first day, Water bottle, Towels (for beach/shower), Swimsuit, Sneakers, Play clothes, Shower shoes (e.g. flip flops), Shower supplies (e.g. soap, shampoo, etc.), Toiletries, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Sleeping Bag, Fitted Sheet, Pillow, Pajamas (please note it gets chilly at night! Consider bringing sweats)
Will drinking water be provided?
No, but students can bring a water bottle to refill.
Is there a cost for attending?
The cost for attending is $15 per student to cover the cost of meals and ancillary expenses.
Why is HFA holding the Overnight Orientation?
To center us on Christ and to build Christian friendships, which are the glue of community
