Despite coming into the game as the underdog (Mt. Royal soundly defeated the L.G. last season), the Lady Griffins took an early lead and held it for the entire game until the final seconds. The Griffins relied on their tough defense in the paint and rebounding efforts by Pauline A., Kate D. and Cathleen D. along with a persistent press on the inbound to keep their opponents in check. The girls were up by a score of 46-44 with posession of the ball with 2 seconds in the game and thought they had the win, but due to clock error on their inbound, had to replay the inbounding pass. The ball went out of bounds on the inbound pass and a clock error again forced another re-do, but this time with Mt. Royal in posession of the ball because it had gone out of bounds. On the ensuing play, Mt. Royal inbounded the ball to their best shooter who instantly drained a 3 pointer at the buzzer to seal the Griffin's defeat. Though it wasn't a league game, it was still a tough loss for the Lady Griffins who played so hard and have seen so much success over the past two seasons.
