On Friday, May 6, 19 Latin students from Holy Family Academy attended the New Hampshire Classical Association Classics Day at St. Anselm's College. Over a dozen New Hampshire schools were represented at the event. Students and teachers enjoyed a short presentation by Professor Stephen Brunet of UNH on Roman Gladiators and a living history presentation of a Roman Legionnaire by Andy Volpe, who came dressed for the talk in full Roman soldier uniform!
Three of our students participated in the art contest, and one, Kate Dennehy, took home an honorable mention for her drawing of a Greek Helmet. We also participated in the New Hampshire Classical Association Certamen, in which students compete in a fast-thinking trivia game about Latin grammar and Roman history, mythology, and culture. Three of our students, Estelle Mandeville, Owen Rival, and Collette Tetreault, took part in the competition, and they came in second place! All in all, the trip gave our Latin students the opportunity to celebrate their studies and see the exciting events offered to students of the Classics in New Hampshire. For photos, please click here.
